In Lecina you will find the most monumental tree in Aragón, which is the subject of this beautiful legend.

Long ago, the village was surrounded by impenetrable oaks which provided shelter to wild animals and the feared witches.

The trees of the forest were happy because this way people could not enter the forest to collect firewood, acorns and leaves... But the youngest oak tree was very upset that the forest had such a bad reputation.

There were frequent arguments between the small oak tree and the other trees. The witches, who heard the protests of the young tree, decided to leave. Before they left, they wanted to express their gratitude to the oldest oak trees and show their support by granting their wishes. A group of trees wanted their branches and leaves to be gold, others wanted to permeate the most delightful perfumes, and others wanted their leaves to be the most pure crystal. Only the smallest oak wanted to continue being the same.

After the witches left, a great storm of wind and hailstones erupted, causing the crystal trees to break. Another day, the aromatic leaves were eaten by a heard of animals, and finally, it didn't take long for the trees of gold to be picked apart by thieves.

From that immense forest, the only one to survive was the youngest tree, who since then everyone has respected. It is the same oak that we gaze upon today and that after many centuries continues producing large and delicious acorns.
