La Boquera is considered one of the most interesting areas in the River Vero Cultural Park, with respect to fauna and for bird-watching enthusiasts.
Here three types of ecosystems converge: the waters of the Vero and the Cinca, riverside vegetation and escarpments of gypsum. It has been declared a Site of Community Importance (CSI).
A great number of birds inhabit the area surrounding the river: kingfishers, European penduline tits, long-tailed tits, orioles, great tits (parus major), wagtails, grey herons, woodpeckers and white storks.
Among the most noteworthy fish are the south-west European nase, barbels, carp, trout, northern pikes, wolffish, and banded toadfish.
The escarpments of gypsum are ideal locations for the nesting of bee-eaters, common kestrels, alpine swifts, and the common house martin, among others.
