Between Alquézar and Barbastro, the River Vero flows through a large and fertile valley, dominated by soft lithologies, such as sandstone, marl and clay. This composition has permitted the formation of several river terraces and the use of the land to cultivate olive trees, grains, vines and small farms. It also has ideal conditions for road networks and the establishment of urban centres.
On the banks of the River Vero, riverside vegetation has grown, which is essential for the conservation of the banks and for providing shelter to several species of animals connected to the water.
Small woodlands of holm and gall-oaks, which are perfectly adapted to the Mediterranean climate of this area, exist away from the river course and in areas which haven't been cultivated.
